I was obsessed with the hurdy gurdy playing of Ethan James during the mid 1990s when we were both performing at "Renaissance faires" in California. We did a gig together at a seedy nightclub in Los Angeles in 1997, and the source recording for this Kaderci song was from a duet where Ethan and I were trading riffs in the melodic mode makam Hicaz (similar to the upper half of harmonic minor).
